City of Ruin Has High Hopes for Boss Visit

Civic leaders in Christchurch NZ invite Springsteen to unplug after tour

Civic leaders in Australasia’s quake-battered City of Ruin have high hopes that Bruce Springsteen will unplug and bring his message of hope, courage and perseverance to the people of Christchurch after his current tours ends in Auckland March 2.

After the devastating quake series in 2010-2011, Springsteen’s song “My City of Ruin” with its heartfelt call to “rise up” became an anthem for many people of Christchurch. Civic leaders of Christchurch have written moving letters asking the Boss to come and lift spirits as he did for New York and New Orleans. The Mayor, former Mayors, a former deputy PM…even New Zealand’s official National Wizard…have joined the call.

Last year, Springsteen’s tour organizers rejected a Facebook effort to have one of the tour’s concerts in Christchurch, citing logistical problems. The Mayor’s invitation envisions a smaller, logistically simpler, unplugged concert for Christchurch people in Cathedral Square.

The invitation has gone out, but a reply has not yet come back. New Zealand organizers are hoping that fans and concert goers along the tour across Australia and New Zealand will ask Bruce if he’s going to help Australasia’s battered City of Ruin by unplugging in Christchurch.
