Update: Shellfish advisory for Waiheke Island lifted

Further to Tuesday’s alert of a suspected case of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) at Waiheke Island’s Onetangi Beach, test results conducted by the Ministry for Primary Industries have come back negative for PSP toxin.

Shellfish and seawater samples around New Zealand are tested by MPI each week to ensure they are not contaminated with biotoxin from algae blooms. The public will be alerted should any biotoxins be detected.
