Funding round two open for applications in Upper Hutt
Upper Hutt City Council opens round two of Creative
New Zealand’s community funding scheme.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 04 AUG 2015——Round two of the Creative Communities Scheme funding is now open for applications for Upper Hutt residents and community groups. The fund aims to inspire communities to create great arts projects of all descriptions, and is available for any project that provides opportunities for local communities to engage with, and participate in arts activities. This is a fund that is administered twice a year by the Upper Hutt City Council on behalf of Creative New Zealand.
Groups and individuals qualify for the fund if they provide:
1. Broad community involvement—creating opportunities for local communities to engage with and participate in arts activities;
2. Diversity—supporting the diverse arts and cultural traditions of local communities, enriching and promoting their uniqueness and cultural diversity or;
3. Opportunity for young people—enabling and encouraging young people (under 18 years of age) to engage with, and actively participate in the arts.
Earlier this year, the first Creative Communities Scheme funding round saw Upper Hutt City Council grant $16,000 to eight organisations within the community. There were a variety of projects that received funding, including a 3D printing workshop, storytelling for special needs adults, and an arts expo for tamariki.
“The Creative Communities Scheme is a great opportunity for community groups, small and large, to get support for their art-based projects,” says Mike Ryan, Upper Hutt City Council’s Director of Community Services. “I would encourage all groups to apply, or get in touch to talk about their idea if they are unsure if their project fits the funding criteria.”
Upper Hutt residents or community groups who have an idea for a community-led arts project that would qualify under one of the three priorities above, are encouraged to put forward an application. Also, if you have not applied for funding before and are unsure how it works, please get in touch with Upper Hutt City Council’s Funding Officer, Amber Moffitt. Email funding@uhcc.govt.nz or call (04) 527 2793.
The closing date for applications is 5.00 pm Friday, 18 September 2015. For more information, go to www.upperhuttcity.com/funding-information
