Dunedin supermarket supports breastfeeding Mums

Green Island supermarket Moyles has committed to support families and breastfeeding mothers with plans for extra rooms that can be used for breastfeeding in their new store.

WellSouth Health Promoter and member of the Dunedin Breastfeeding Network, Sophie Carty has been has been working with Moyles SuperValue to help them become a more breastfeeding friendly employer.

Sophie Carty says; “Despite having very little space for staff at the moment, Moyles offers the next door building they own for breastfeeding breaks. Additionally they have committed to offering mothers and fathers breastfeeding information prior to going on parental leave”.

Moyles SuperValue owner and manager, John Moyle says next year when they open the new building they will have rooms for mothers to use for breastfeeding. They also plan to add a breastfeeding policy once the new premise is set up.

John says; “We’re not perfect, but we are a family-focused business and it’s about doing little things that can have a huge impact on staff wellbeing”. He believes breastfeeding at work does not need to be a big deal, and all that mothers need is somewhere private for 10 minutes or so – it can just be a room with a meeting in progress sign up.
