Why Not Adapt The Look For “WOMEN OF EMPIRE 1914-1918”

Monday 23rd November 2pm-3pm, Thames Nurses and members of our community will give a special “one off” performance. You are invited to join the performers in dressing up for the occasion, although they stress that is non essential. In the foyer of the Thames Civic Centre, they will read their poems written to support a unique international touring exhibition which pays tribute to the lives of 30 women from Australia and NZ.

The poems are aimed at expanding awareness of how the events surrounding The Great War in 1914-1918 affected the lives of ordinary women in Australia and New Zealand. These works are on display in the Civic Centre foyer for the duration of
the exhibition.

Also on display in the Civic Centre foyer during the exhibition are a collection of LETTERS TO FALLEN SOLDIERS 1914-18, from around New Zealand. Part of a letter to fallen ANZACs project, which began in Australia, it features letters by children from Thames’s St Francis School. It is hoped that the children may also be able to read their letters in the foyer of the Civic Centre on the same (or another) day of the exhibition.
