Northland Teacher Struck off Register

A Northland teacher has been struck off the teachers’ register following his sentencing in the Whangarei District Court for indecent assault and obtaining objectionable material.

Antonio (Daniel) Morales was sentenced to two years and nine months imprisonment.

The Education Council’s manager teacher practice Andrew Greig said the Council moved swiftly.

"We received a mandatory report from the school and immediately undertook to ensure he did not teach during his investigation. This was annotated on the teachers’ register.

"There is no place for this kind of person in the classroom. He will not teach again and the victims and their families can be assured of this. We hope this final step brings some kind of closure to them.

"The role of the Education Council is to make sure teachers are safe to teach. We take this obligation very seriously."

The name of the school and the victims has been suppressed.
