Truck Driver winched to safety after crashing the Manawatu Gorge

Two People From Manawatu George Truck Crash Winched From Accident Site

The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the Manawatu George late this morning to assist emergency crews with the extraction of two people involved in a serious truck crash.

Emergency services set a staging area on the road in the Gorge for the helicopter to use.

The Rescue Chopper winched a St John Advanced Paramedic into the site to assist with the extraction of the two patients. One was winched from the truck cab while the second from near the truck.

The patients were then met by waiting ambulance crews at the helicopter landing site. Their condition is unknown.

Weather through the area at the time made the flying conditions to affect the rescue difficult with rain and very strong winds.
