Ready for a Second Term on Palmerston North City Council

Ready for a second term on Palmerston North City Council, Aleisha Rutherford officially announces her candidacy in this year's election today.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my first term on Council. It has been a pleasure to represent the people of Palmerston North and specifically the Ashhurst Community.”

At twenty six years old, Rutherford is confident that the voters will recognise the great work that she has already done on council and can see that her best is yet to come.

Rutherford says, “I am proud of my contribution to our city over the past three years. I have several highlights such as the successful roll out of Bikes in Schools, an increased focus on community engagement and the opportunity to champion a digital culture within the council, including the attempt to trial online voting.”

Since age nineteen, Rutherford has been an active community member volunteering for the Arohanui Hospice, establishing an annual mid-year Food Drive and more recently being appointed as a Justice of the Peace.

Rutherford plans to continue her active approach throughout her time on council saying, “Taking action and moving this city forward is central to what I want to do.”

Voting for local council opens on Friday 16 September and closes on Saturday 8 October.
