Residents to be convoyed

20 November 2016 – 1.40pm

Residents to be convoyed through the inland Kaikoura Emergency Access Road this afternoon

The Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management Group have arranged for residents living on the inland Kaikoura Emergency Access Road (State Highway 70) to be escorted to their properties in a convoy this afternoon

The convoy departs Waiau checkpoint at 2.30pm. The convoy will travel north as far as Mount Lyford. Residents living in the area should report to the Waiau checkpoint as soon as possible.

Residents may stay the night at their properties or they must exit at the Waiau Checkpoint by 6pm tonight.

There will be no other civilian movements on this route today regardless of permits that may have already been issued.

This evening, Civil Defence plans to announce timings for a resident’s convoy tomorrow. That is likely to be two convoys – including one that may go beyond Mount Lyford.
