Former New Zealand Diplomat Stepping Up for New
Lynn
Former New Zealand diplomat, Fulbright alumna and published author Leilani Tamu has announced today that she is putting her name forward to be the Green Party’s candidate for New Lynn.
“I’ve spent a good part of my life working in the New Lynn electorate,” says Tamu, “and I know I can make a difference by standing up for our community.”
The electorate is traditionally a Labour stronghold, although National has won the party vote in recent years.
“As a kid I spent time on the streets in New Lynn, so I know what it feels like to struggle in this electorate. I’ve been there, I get it.
“The community in New Lynn has so many strengths, there’s talent here from all walks of life. I want to represent this community and bring the passion it deserves to Parliament.”
Tamu is currently working for Auckland Council as a senior advisor in quality advice, is married to a New Zealand Police Officer and has two children. She is 34 years old and has just completed her second book.
