Learn to Swim - Term 3 2017 Update
A big thank you to all our swimmers and families for your continued support of the swim school and for acknowledging the importance of becoming swim safe, especially in our area as we are almost entirely surrounded by water.
As summer approaches it is great to see so many local children becoming water-wise, especially with the drowning statistics our country has.
Consistency is the key to learning any skill and swimming is no different, so congratulations to all swimmers who have braved what was a rough winter weather-wise.
As our summer terms near, the importance of continuing the good work and maintaining the gains achieved over winter cannot be stressed enough. Children that swim all year round are leaps and bounds ahead of term 4 and 1 swimmers.
Arriving Late / Early
A child arriving late disrupts the whole class and the swimmer is always starting the lesson incorrectly, trying to catch up or missing the most important part. Please make sure you book a time that you know you can arrive on time for.
Also, can we not have students swimming before their lesson please. By the time their lesson comes around they are already tired and have trouble keeping up in the class.
Parents please help us enforce this.
Key Dates
Week 9: Monday 18 Sept - Friday 22 Sept is assessment and re-registration for swimmers currently in the programme.
Week 10: Monday 25 Sept - Friday 29 September continue re-enrolment, also open to public for assessments and new enrolments.
Holiday intensive block lessons - Monday 9 Oct to Thursday 12 Oct.
Term 4 Starts on Monday 16 Oct.
Block Lessons
We
will be running our intensive holiday block lessons again,
depending on numbers.
The block lessons involve 8 lessons in 4 days(morning and afternoon), the lessons are a great way to accelerate learning.
We offer low swimmer-to-instructor ratios per class, and each session is tailored to the skill of the group.
Please note these are for school age swimmers only (no preschool).
Register now at the desk in the dome, the cost for these lessons is $60.00 per child, payments are not due until the first lesson.
Swim NZ guru Wendy will be on site this week skilling up all of our instructors.
Aqualine swimmer of the Term
Congratulations to James Heap!
James has been in Kendall's Marlin class this term and has really watched and listened to the instructors.
Swimming is a technique-based sport and swimmers that really listen learn twice as fast as those that don’t. James will receive a prize pack from Aqualine over the next few weeks.
Coach's Corner
In swimming, when learning to breathe, it is important to use your body to breathe not your head. By rolling your whole body at the hips onto your side it keeps your body high in the water and allows you to be smoother (not so stop, start and gasp).
Instructors teach drills for this from Eel level up but the real focus kicks in at Snapper level. Swimmers who master this move on to swim lengths in no time.
