Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is urging motorists to delay journeys or prepared to be detoured via SH16, with SH1 fully closed between Orewa and Woodcocks Rd (Warkworth) while crews work to clear a large slip.

Traffic in the area is very heavy, and people are urged to avoid the area altogether if possible. Those who are using SH1 are advised to exit at Silverdale or earlier.

The closure will remain in place until crews are able to clear the slip – a further update will be provided this afternoon.

More wet weather is expected over the next few hours, and motorists are reminded to drive with extra care on state highways and on local roads, with surface flooding, slips and fallen trees affecting many roads.
