Police can advise one person has died following a single vehicle crash on Methven Highway, Allenton, Ashburton overnight.

Emergency services were notified around 12:45am and the sole occupant tragically passed away at the scene.

The road is now open following a scene examination.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
