Police can confirm one person has died in a crash involving two vehicles on State Highway 30 near Atiamuri.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 5am today.

Sadly, one person died at the scene. Another person was taken to Rotorua Hospital with moderate injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene, and the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

The road has now reopened.
