Kaipara Welcomes 16 New Citizens |

Another 16 proud individuals from around the world officially became New Zealand citizens at the Dargaville Lighthouse Function Centre on 13 August.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Mana Whenua representative Kaumatua Allan Nesbit, who acknowledged the significance of the moment and the courage it takes to embrace a new homeland.
Joining the occasion were Elected Members, Resident Naval Officer Lieutenant Commander Michael Smith, Allan Nesbit, and Richard Te Haara, who each played a role in honouring the new citizens. Kaipara District Council’s General Manager for Strategic Improvement, Hayley Worthington, also attended and reflected on the importance of the day.
“It’s heartwarming to see people who have lived in Kaipara for years – some for over two decades – finally take this step and officially become New Zealand citizens.
These events are also a fantastic opportunity to connect with some of the residents we provide services for, and understand their journeys, It’s a proud moment for the district and a reminder of the value of welcoming everyone into our community.”
Many of the new citizens shared personal reflections, with several describing how a short holiday turned into a lifelong connection.
Those welcomed as citizens in today’s ceremony included:
