Local Elections / 2028 / November?

Thomas Morgan, Wellington City Council Eastern Ward Candidate is suggesting that the 2028 local body elections be moved to November 2028 to account for the poor weather conditions in August.

“Door knocking is a tough job and it doesn’t get any easier in bad and cold weather. It’s not just the situation for the candidates, the public too are not fussed about standing at their front door in freezing weather which makes for a very quick visit with no real chance to have a decent chat.” He said.

“If the election date was moved to November the whole program would move forward a calendar month hopefully allowing for better campaigning conditions for an extra month during October.

“Of course much of the pitch is now done through (social) media such as here https://www.facebook.com/VoteThomasMorgan however people still really appreciate seeing the candidates in the flesh and being able to ask questions directly.” He said.

The election occurs on 11 October with voting starting from 9 September when voting papers start to be posted out. Special votes can be cast by any resident right up to voting day and more information can be found here:- https://wellington.govt.nz/your-council/elections/2025-elections/information-for-voters/how-to-cast-a-special-vote
