A conference bringing together up to 200 volunteer managers and leaders from across New Zealand will be held in Auckland on 9-10 October 2025.

“With the landscape of volunteering evolving rapidly, this is an opportunity to come together, share insights, and lead the charge toward the future of volunteering,” says Michelle Kitney, Chief Executive of conference organiser Volunteering New Zealand.

The conference will help those involved in the community and voluntary sector navigate the current shifts, such as more informal volunteering, and provide tools to drive meaningful change.

Speakers include:

• Professor Paul Spoonley: A leading social scientist, Paul will explore the social and cultural factors that impact social service delivery and volunteering.
• Dr Andrew Lensen: As an expert on Artificial Intelligence, Dr Lensen will explore the opportunities and risks AI presents to the volunteering sector.
• Victoria Davy: As head of volunteering at Blind Low Vision NZ, Victoria will lead a session on critical skills to maintain your passion, embrace balance, and flourish under the ever-changing pressures of supporting and leading others.

“One of the highlights of the Hui will be an interactive session focusing on the future of volunteering. We’ll be looking ahead to the International Year of the Volunteer 2026 and discussing how we can shape and advocate for the future of volunteering in Aotearoa,” Michelle says.

There is an optional Masterclass on 9 October, followed by a networking event celebrating Volunteering Auckland's 35 years of leadership in volunteering across the non-profit sector.
