West Coast Total Mobility users and service providers are now using the new card system in Westport, Hokitika and Greymouth.

The scheme helps eligible people with long-term and short-term impairments access appropriate transport to meet their daily needs and participate in community activities.

West Coast Regional Council, which administers the scheme on the Coast, has been issuing users with cards to replace old paper vouchers. The rollout is now complete.

Group Manager Regulatory & Policy Matt Smith says there’s been good feedback from transport providers and people who use the service.

“They’re all saying it makes the process easier on both sides. The grace period for using for using the old paper vouchers ends 30 September 2025.”

Total Mobility is run by regional councils across the country. It offers subsidised door-to-door transport services wherever scheme transport providers operate. For the West Coast this means taxi companies in Westport, Greymouth and Hokitika.

The cards allow registered users of the scheme a 75% discount up to a maximum fare of $30.

Eligibility is based on assessment. Trained mobility assessors on the West Coast: GP practices in Hokitika, Greymouth and Westport, the West Coast Primary Health Organisation and Poutini Waiora.
