2025 Wellington City Elections – Progress Results

Andrew Little has convincingly won the Wellington mayoralty according to a progress result released this afternoon.

The result, with about 85% of votes counted, shows Mr Little has received 34,240 votes, compared to Karl Tiefenbacher who has received 8,807 votes, and third-placed Ray Chung with 6,838 votes.

Wellingtonians have also voted resoundingly to retain the Te Whanganui-a-Tara Māori Ward. A total of 38,125 votes were in support of retention compared with 19,622 against. The outcome of the poll will bind the Council for the 2028 and 2031 elections.

Wellington City Deputy Electoral Officer Jennifer Parker says while the majority of votes have been counted, there is a still high volume of last-minute and special votes to be counted.

This progress report is an indicator of the results, but things can change between now and the preliminary results, which include today’s votes and won’t be available until tomorrow evening or early Monday.”
