Preliminary results of the 2025 Greater Wellington elections have been released, with no changes to the Constituency Councillors and the outcome of the Māori Constituency Poll issued in Saturday’s progress update.

Nigel Corry, Chief Executive of Greater Wellington, says voters right across the region have had their voice heard with over 182,000 people turning out for their chance to shape the next three years and beyond.

“Voters have been out in full force, attending community meetings, making their opinions known on social media and campaigning for their local candidates. It’s great to see all of this positive energy and effort translate into voting”, says Mr Corry.

The indicative voter return for Greater Wellington so far is 45.8%, with voting documents received from 181,849 electors out of 397,317 eligible voters in the region, excluding special votes. 

Though special votes are yet to be counted, voter turnout in 2025 compares favourably compared with total turnout of 43.4% in 2019 and 2022.

The preliminary results are as follows:

Mr Corry says he is delighted to welcome back seven returning Councillors, as well as seven newcomers to the council table.

“Greater Wellington is a diverse region and our council table always reflects that. I am looking forward to working with a range of strong voices that can continue to ensure we have an extraordinary region: a thriving environment, connected community and resilient future,” adds Mr Corry.

Progress results include votes returned until Friday 10 October. Votes delivered on the final day and all special votes are not included in the progress result.

• Preliminary results

Preliminary results include all ordinary votes, including those made on the final day. Special votes are not included.

• Final results

Once all special votes have been validated with the Electoral Commission, we expect to announce the final results by Friday this week. They include all votes, including special votes, returned by 12 noon on Saturday 11 October.
