Hawke’s Bay Better Bus Routes Launching January 2026 |
||

1 December 2025
A new and improved bus network will begin across Napier and Hastings from 25 January 2026. It will be more direct, serves more places, and be simpler to use.
Hawke's Bay Regional Transport Committee Chair Neil Kirton says, “The launch of the Better Bus Routes network marks a significant step in improving public transport accessibility across the region, with clearer and easier-to-understand routes.”
"We’ve listened to our community and understand the current service doesn’t always meet people’s needs. Better Bus Routes has been shaped by that feedback, and we’re proud that it will provide better connection within and between Hastings and Napier and give people more options for getting where they need to go," says Councillor Kirton.
He says that with over 500 bus stops and better-connected locations, he's excited to hop on board.
"The new network will now connect two new key destinations, Hawke's Bay Airport and Hawke's Bay Regional Sports Park. There will also be more buses to key locations like Hawke's Bay Hospital, and over 100 additional bus stops across the two cities. It's going to get people where they're going faster and more simply."
Hastings will see the biggest change in public transport, with the MyWay service to end on 23 January 2026, two days ahead of the launch of Better Bus Routes.
Regional Council Group Manager Policy & Regulation Katrina Brunton says, "The new network's direct routes and transfer points are designed to effectively serve the wider Napier and Hastings community. The new Hastings bus routes provide an efficient and effective alternative to MyWay for the city."
"We know that change can be challenging. We're committed to providing dedicated support to help all users get on board the new network, particularly for Hastings' residents currently using MyWay."
"Bus users will see ambassadors riding the buses from today, at bus stops, and key locations for the next two months to talk passengers through the change, answer questions, and hand out information. You'll also see our ambassadors and Regional Council staff and councillors at community events and key locations around Hastings and Napier talking to the community about the change."
There will also be trial run days for higher-needs groups including older people and people with disabilities to build confidence and comfort with the new routes ahead of launch day.
"Ahead of the launch of Better Bus Routes on 25 January 2026 we encourage bus users to head to gobay.co.nz to get to know your route," adds Ms Brunton.
The website has information about the change, an interactive map of the new network, and FAQs, with more information including the timetable and helpful how-to videos and more coming closer to launch.
