Jetty Set, Go! Waitaria Bay Has A New Wharf |
||

Waitaria Bay’s new jetty is completed.
The jetty, in Kenepuru Sound in Marlborough, was damaged by a landslide in the August 2022 storm.
Temporary repairs were made at the time, but a routine inspection last year found that some structural components had deteriorated significantly. As a result, the jetty was closed.
Work on a new jetty began late last year and it was usable for Christmas traffic, although with some restrictions.
Marlborough Roads Transport Recovery Manager Steve Murrin said the new structure was now finished with the only work to be done the completion of a shelter shed on land.
Marlborough Sounds Ward councillor Barbara Faulls said having the jetty back up and running had been a “wonderful boost for the community”.
“This jetty is a vital lifeline for not only the school families, but for the wider community who rely on it to bring in groceries, to access water taxis or private boats in times of need, and to allow residents to go about their normal day to day lives,” she said.
Another boost for the local community was the completion of a driveway to the Waitaria Bay hall carried out by Price Contractors.
“Locals are delighted with the user-friendly result,” Clr Faulls said.
