Appointments Strengthen Arts Advisory Group Connection To Creative Community |
||
Local artists Deb Brock (Taumarunui) and Kate Milham (Ohakune) have joined Council’s Mayoral Arts Advisory Group as artist representatives, helping build stronger connections across Ruapehu’s creative sector.
The newly established Arts Advisory Group has been created to strengthen the relationship between Council and the district’s creative community, while identifying opportunities to integrate arts and creativity into Council projects, public spaces, and community initiatives.

Council representative John Chapman said both artists bring a wealth of experience, strong community ties, and a passion for supporting local creatives.
“Deb and Kate each bring deep local connections, strong creative practice, and a real commitment to supporting artists, groups, and community-led arts across our district,” he said.
Deb Brock has deep roots in Taumarunui and a long history of community involvement, alongside an active mixed-media and ceramic practice.
She also brings valuable experience in securing funding and supporting grassroots arts initiatives.
Kate Milham, now based in Ohakune, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and has decades of creative experience.
She has successfully run a gallery, built strong arts networks, and developed programmes that connect and support artists.
Cr Chapman said both artists will be actively engaging with Ruapehu’s creative community.
