Gamble free day!
While the DCM Bookfair is in full swing next weekend at the TSB Bank Arena Pokie Concern Wellington, in Civic Square, will be promoting the dangers of pokie machines as part of Gamble Free Day.
Music and activities are planned to show the concern at the amount of harm gambling is doing in our communities.
This year's theme is community safety and protecting communities and families from gambling harm.
The day will also mark the public launch of the POW Pokies T-Shirt range.
Clubs and other venues with pokie machines are encouraged to turn them off for the day as a sign of their commitment to reducing gambling harm.
Many Downtown Community Ministry clients suffer from problem gambling behaviour. They exhibit high anxiety over the financial debts they carry as a result of their addictive behaviour.
DCM's Street People Project assists many of these clients relieve these debts through better money management and referral to gambling counselling services.
So, DCM encourages you to head to the Bookfair next weekend, September 1st, and right after that go and support Gamble Free Day at Civic Square.
