No place for industrial food in residential areas

No place for industrial food in residential areas

“I am disappointed that McDonalds has gained consent to open up one of its ‘restaurants’ in Balmoral.” says Eden Albert Community Board Chair, Christopher Dempsey.

“This is a direct result of Citizens and Ratepayers planning policies; it is their District Plan, created under their watch that has allowed this monstrosity, among others, to happen” Mr Dempsey explains.

“The effects of this decision will be widespread; litter will be thoughtlessly thrown out of car windows in surrounding residential areas, the smell of fried chips will drift through nearby residential homes, and the loud roar of boy(and girl) racers will waken young children long into the night.”

“In short, industrial fast-food has no place in residential areas. I will work with my City Vision colleagues to address this pernicious issue; residential amenity is paramount particularly where commercial or industrial areas abut residential areas. A fast food operation on the scale of McDonalds Balmoral is more akin to an industrial facility and should be more appropriately placed in an industrial area.”
