The building industry now has an opportunity to correct a number of inadequacies that are present in the current Act, which has lead to considerable inefficiency within the industry.

The introduction of a self-regulatory approach is one option that deserves serious consideration, as there have been countless issues with Councils inability to fulfil their statutory obligations in a timely manner. Additionally the are Councils that have placed unfair burdens on developers and homeowners due to lack of proper process described in the Building Act.

The Building Industry needs to move forward out of the recession with the potential to improve productivity through better legislation and quality control processes."
