Apprentice contestants have a lot to learn from the experts

Simon Shreeve, director of interior designers homebase, says he won’t be rushing to offer any of The Apprentice contestants an apprenticeship at his company after tonight’s efforts on TV2’s hit show, which saw two apprentices fired.

“With all due respect, I think what the show most clearly demonstrated is that interior design and homestaging are best left to the experts.”

Tonight’s episode saw the contestants renovating two identical million-dollar apartments in Auckland's Viaduct Harbour. Homebase provided the furniture, art and accessories from their homestaging portfolio for the contestants to use.

Homebase has been playing a key ‘background’ role on The Apprentice, fitting out the reception area, boardroom and the contestants’ luxury penthouse apartments at the CityLife Auckland hotel.

Simon Shreeve says that bringing out the best in a property is critical to achieving maximum sale or rental value, particularly in these uncertain times for the property market.

“Overseas research shows that homestaged properties sell for 10-15 per cent more money and up to twice as fast as houses that haven’t been staged.”
