Financial Markets Authority seeks chief executive-designate

The Financial Markets Authority (FMA) took a major step forward today with the start of a recruitment campaign for its chief executive-designate.

Chairman of the FMA Establishment Board, Simon Botherway, says this milestone shows the FMA is well on track to begin its work early next year.

“The appointment of a CE is a key task in establishing the FMA and the Establishment Board is pleased to have progressed development to a position to start advertising for this role.”

The new capital markets regulator was announced less than three months ago to consolidate the powers and functions of the Securities Commission, some of the functions of the Registrar of Companies and the Government Actuary, and some of the regulatory roles of NZX.

“The FMA will be key to restoring and maintaining confidence in New Zealand’s financial markets. The Establishment Board looks forward to welcoming a high quality candidate into this very important position.”

The recruitment campaign is being led by Hobson Leavy (www.hobsonleavy.com) and is seeking both New Zealand and overseas candidates.
