Grazing heifers deserves careful consideration. Vet advice now available.

Grazing heifers for dairy clients is a tricky business! A specialist training day has been developed by Anexa / Animal Health Centre veterinarians for graziers, with the aim of providing comprehensive information on how to grow good, healthy heifers.

With the imminent ban on inductions, heifer rearing is poised to become increasingly important to improve a herd’s reproductive performance. It is important to ensure graziers are educated and equipped to deal with the changing demands of the dairy industry. This group of farmers has been largely left to their own devices and it is about time they got some attention!

“We want to ensure that our client’s graziers are educated and equipped to deal with the changing demands of the dairy industry. Heifers are the highest genetic merit group in the herd and deserve careful consideration. Recent feed shortages, during sequential drought years, have affected heifer weights, with a knock on effect on heifer reproductive and productive performance” says Animal Health Centre veterinarian Katie Denholm.
