Countdown warns of credit card scam

Countdown has learned there is a telephone scam using Countdown discount offers as an inducement to gather credit card details.

A caller rings, telling people they have won a $149 travel voucher and some Countdown discount offers, but that they need to give their credit card details so they can receive the prize.

Countdown has nothing to do with these callers, and is warning people to be aware of the scam.

“Countdown or Onecard will never ask for anyone’s credit card details over the phone”, says Elizabeth Ryley, Progressive Enterprises’ General Manager – Marketing & Communications.

“If anyone has given their credit card details to one of these callers, please report it to the Police and your bank” says Ms Ryley.

Progressive Enterprises Ltd has reported the scam to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs Scamwatch site.
