TVNZ’s Presenter Shows Unison Employees the Power of High Performance

Staff participating in Unison‟s „Employee Development Programme (EDP)‟ were recently treated to an audience with Nadine Chalmers-Ross, business reporter for TVNZ‟s popular Breakfast show.

A former Taradale High School student and, when at age 24, she was the youngest ever host of TVNZ‟s Business show, Nadine was an obvious choice to talk to the group on goal setting and overcoming obstacles in the pursuit of high performance.

“Unison drives a core mission to deliver excellence across the business, and we believe having high performing employees is critical to the success of Unison.

“Nadine shows the heights that can be achieved when a goal is set and passionately followed,” said Unison Group Chief Executive Ken Sutherland.

“We aim to develop our employees‟ potential, and their passion, to achieve excellence in their careers through programmes such as the EDP.”

The programme is offered to fourteen individuals over a two-year period, and includes guest speakers, special projects and personal development courses.

Nadine talked with the group about her career and meteoric rise, and gave the group insights into some of her philosophies around high performance in business.

“In the pursuit of high performance, it‟s important to remember to respect the people you are working with – you can‟t let your ambition override that fact.”

She also reminded the group that failure was always a risk, but the fear of failure should not stop anyone driving for excellence.

“Find out what lights the fire under you, and don‟t worry if the idea of pursuing that goal scares you – a little bit of fear can motivate you to work even harder; to make sure you can achieve your ambitions.

“After all, as the actress Mary Pickford said, „this thing that we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down‟.”
