Wet summer doesn’t deter classic kiwi Christmas |
By Hannah Lynch
Feb. 10 (BusinessDesk) – A wetter than usual December didn’t dent the classic kiwi Christmas getaway, as holiday park guest nights rose 4.7 percent in the month
The number of guest nights at New Zealand’s holiday parks rose to a seasonally adjusted 548,000 in December compared to 523,000 a year earlier, according to government figures That came as rainfall in the North Island and top of the South Island was 50 percent above the average level.
“Holiday parks around the country have been adapting to meet the needs and expectations of visitors,” said Fergus Brown, chief executive of Holiday Accommodation Parks Association. “They are offering more facilities and accommodation choices, ranging from basic tent sites to self-contained family units.”
Parks are becoming more sophisticated in their use of online accommodation booking agencies and other online systems that enables visitors to find accommodation options and book them easily, Brown said.
