Owned and managed by qualified chefs Hamish and Angie Beard, who originally converted Dartington Barn from a once popular wedding venue into a private home, and have now opened their doors to offer a B&B - with a difference.

If privacy and seclusion are what you're after then Dartington Barn is definitely for you. This B&B is unique in that it offers only one well-appointed room with ensuite and private guest entrance. But if you think this is the only thing that makes it unique, then think again.

Hamish is a level one archery coach, and offers an archery experience to guests (including use of equipment) for no extra charge. And, if you have ever wanted to have a go at knife or axe throwing, they have an axe throwing wall made of vertically placed pine sleepers. Experience the thrill of throwing an axe, throwing knife or star and you’ll understand why they have the wall there! If you are keen on something a little more relaxing, then you can always try pétanque.

Hamish also works as a local tour-guide, so he'll make sure you stay entertained with the wide range of activities on offer in the region. If you enjoy your food and wine, then Dartington Barn can offer you a truly memorable gourmet experience with behind the scenes wine tours and visits to gourmet food producers. And if you are feeling energetic, they can also arrange bike tours of the local wineries. A keen fisherman himself, Hamish knows the Wairau River well and can advise you on the best fishing around. And if you fancy a quick 18 holes, there are golf clubs available for guests to use at the two nearby 18 hole golf courses.

There are clearly far too many things to do for a single visit, but if the activities alone aren't enough to keep you coming back for more, then perhaps Dartington Barn's very own Florentines will! Hamish and Angie have been making these lovely gluten-free biscuits for the past ten years, using an old recipe from Angie's English pastry tutor. And now you don't just have to be a Dartington Barn guest to find out how good they really are, as they are now available to order from their website. The Florentines can be delivered by the full or half dozen and can be delivered anywhere in New Zealand. Beautifully presented in a gift box with personalised card attached, they make a wonderful gift - or simply a treat to have yourself.
