Wool Prices Remain Steady

New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that the 9,000 bales of wool on offer from the North Island this week saw a generally firm to dearer market compared to the last South Island sale on 27th March with an 89 percent clearance.

The weighted indicator for the main trading currencies was 0.34 percent higher, having minimal impact.

Mr Dawson advises when taking into account the inter-Island wool variations, most types were well supported, however Fine Crossbred Early Shorn and Second Shears received a mixed result with the longer types firm to 1.5 percent easier and the shorter types firm to 2 percent dearer.

Good style Coarse Fleece remained firm with poorer styles increasing by 1.5 to 3 percent. Longer Coarse Shears were 1.5 percent dearer with 2 to 4 inch shears firm to 1.5 percent cheaper and 2 to 3 inch wools 1.5 to 3 percent dearer.

First Lambs were firm to 2 percent stronger poor colour long oddments were firm to 4 percent dearer with good colour short oddments strongly contested, lifting 3 to 5 percent. Poorer styles were 1.5 to 3.5 percent firmer.

Limited competition with China and Australasia principals, supported by India, Western Europe and the Middle East.

Next sale on 11th April comprises approximately 11,800 bales from the South Island.
