SkyTV/MediaWorks/TVNZ/Lightbox Stamp on NZ Innovation

Despite anti-bullying campaigns in schools, bullying is still alive and well in the business world. SkyTV, MediaWorks, TVNZ and Lightbox sent out a letter demanding that BNSL and its customers shut down the Global Mode® service - which has proved to be incredibly popular with the New Zealand public and has provided much needed diversity to the consumer.

“We started Global Mode® to provide choice to New Zealand consumers where they previously had none.” said Patrick Jordan-Smith, CEO of BNSL, “How is New Zealand supposed to progress if small innovators are always at risk of being stamped on by the big boys?”

While Global Mode® is accessible from 1:9 internet connections in New Zealand, the company behind the service, BNSL, is a 3-person company who does not have the resources to fight a lawsuit against 4 companies with a multi billion combined market cap.

BNSL will be writing to the Commerce Commission, asking them to investgate these actions which will have a chilling effect on innovation in New Zealand’s media scene.
