Electric Kiwi Launches Open Tender To Secure Renewable PPAs |
Independent electricity retailer Electric Kiwi is inviting renewable energy developers across Aotearoa to participate in an open market tender for long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and potentially a battery storage tolling arrangement.
The tender, managed by EVA Marketplace, launched last week will run through to late September, with Expressions of Interest now being accepted until 25 July.
Electric Kiwi is offering developers the opportunity to secure 10-15-year power purchase agreements that will support the commercial viability of new renewable generation, while helping fuel Electric Kiwi’s growth and deliver on its commitment to clean, affordable power for New Zealanders.
“This is a significant opportunity for New Zealand’s renewable developers to have their existing facility or planned project backed by a long-term commercial agreement,” says Electric Kiwi’s Nick Haines. “We’re proud to be creating a pathway for more wind and solar developments, and potentially battery storage projects, to get off the ground and contribute to New Zealand’s energy future.”
“A PPA with Electric Kiwi represents a win-win. Importantly, we get price stability and diversity of supply, while developers get long-term purchase agreements that can unlock financing and help accelerate their projects.”
Electric Kiwi is planning to significantly grow its electricity retail offering in the coming years. As part of an evolving purchasing strategy, Electric Kiwi is focusing on securing long-term, fixed-price supply from new renewable generation across New Zealand.
EVA Marketplace, New Zealand’s marketplace for renewable PPAs, will manage a rigorous tender process from end-to-end, including response evaluation, provision of a standard-form PPA, and facilitation of final negotiations.
“Our role is to broker high quality, enduring agreements for Electric Kiwi while ensuring a fair, competitive process for developers,” says Paul Coster, Founder of EVA Marketplace. “We’re excited to support an independent retail player that’s committed to renewables and New Zealand’s future prosperity.”
Developers interested in participating in the tender are encouraged to register their interest with EVA Marketplace at evamarketplace.co.nz.
