The Australian Art Series
* SIDNEY NOLAN'S NED KELLY SERIES Paintings from the National Gallery of Australia - 23 February - 19 May 2002 Amongst the most remarkable paintings in the history of Australian art the Ned Kelly Series is a highlight of the 2002 New Zealand Festival. The paintings retells what has become a defining episode in Australian nationalism - the events leading up to bushranger Ned Kelly's capture and trial in 1880.
EVENT - SAT 23 FEB, 2PM: THE ROLE OF A NATIONAL GALLERY A keynote address from the Director of the National Gallery of Australia, Dr Brian Kennedy.
* TRACEY MOFFATT 23 February - 26 May 2002 Photographer and filmmaker Tracey Moffatt is currently Australia's most internationally recognised and widely exhibited contemporary artist. Nine photographic series and six films/videos feature in this exhibition. The artist draws on diverse sources such as trash TV, B-grade films, documentary, and advertising, manipulating them for her own ends.
* MIKALA DWYER - AN AUSTRALIAN ARTIST'S PROJECT 23 February - 19 May 2002 Mikala Dwyer's 'seriously playful' installations have been exhibited widely in Australia and further afield over the past decade. For this exhibition, she has created a new site-specific installation especially for the Gallery.
EVENT - SUN 24 FEB, 2PM: MIKALA DWYER IN CONVERSATION New Zealand artist Martin Popplewell talks with Mikala Dwyer about her 'seriously playful' site-specific installation.
