Socialite and activist Tyrah Hilton-Duxton (Ngati Porou/Ngati Kahungunu) launches her calendar for 2007 tomorrow night in Wellington.

"Even though I have followed the Western tradition of a January to December calendar, I believe Waitangi Day is the beginning of the year for New Zealanders. It's the first day in the year that we actually face our history, and decide what it means for us to live in Aotearoa." Tyrah said today.

Tyrah says that her calendar reflects a new stage in her personal and political development. It's all about moving beyond grievance, and embracing the new diversity of populations who now live here.

"I asked for references to feminine icons like Carmen and Marilyn, but I wanted the glamour and diversity underpinned by Maori sovereignty. The result is tino rangatiratanga tit power, and I'm just thrilled."
