$12,000 NZ Feature Wins Second International Award

Press Release for immediate release

$12,000 New Zealand Feature Film Wins Second International Award

The no-budget New Zealand feature film, Eight Broken Fingers, has won its second international award at the Brilliant Light International Film Festival of Los Angeles last week, where it received the award for Best International Narrative Feature. Festival organiser, Jennifer Corinna, stated, "We had a really good turn out for the Saturday night screening (of Eight Broken Fingers) and your film definitely moves people emotionally!"

Last October the film picked up the Best Foreign Film award at the FAIFF International Festival in L.A. and has screened at five International film festivals since its world premiere last October.

Eight Broken Fingers, which was produced for NZ$12,000, tackles the issue of the abuse of power, and its premise, says Michael Thorp, writer and director, is that unless people can balance up their own interests with the interests of those around them, they're going to breed resentment, hatred, and violence, of which the U.S. actions in Iraq are a classic example.

Michael Thorp is currently polishing up three other screenplays he has written, and is completing the novelization one in South Korea where he is currently teaching English to survive.
