National Climbing Competition comes to Lower Hutt |

The second round of the NZ Sportclimbing Federation’s 2007 National Cup Series is to take place at Hang Dog Climbing Centre in Lower Hutt at Queens Birthday weekend (June 2/3).
DynoMites Climbing Club based at Hangdog, in association with the NZ Sportclimbing Federation is hosting this event. The series is made up of four events which commenced last month in Christchurch and will conclude in August following further events in Mt Maunganui & Wanaka.

Competitors in this
event range from Under 12 (on top rope), through to Juniors,
Open and Masters (lead). It is anticipated there will up to
80 competitors over the course of the weekend and a similar
number of supporters. Competition promises to be intense
with competitors and clubs from all over the country vying
for top individual and club honours.

An added attraction to this event is the participation of 7 of the country’s top young climbers. These climbers have been selected by the NZ Sportclimbing Federation to represent New Zealand at the Youth World Sportclimbing Champs in Ecuador in August of this year. The National Cup Series is part of their buildup for the World event and they will be keen to test their training and competitiveness against New Zealand’s best.
Hang Dog will be open from 8 am on Saturday the 2nd with climbing commencing at 8.30. Climbers from around 10 years old through to adults, including Masters (over 35), will compete in qualifying rounds till 10 pm Saturday night then in the finals on Sunday till 3 pm.
