Community Life from the Streets

Street theatre hit Wellington last night with Familiar Strangers, a play that tackles the perceptions we have of the characters on Wellington’s streets.

The play journeys through the alleyways, pavements and curb-side philosophies of Courtenay Place to provide a compelling exploration of how we experience community on the streets.

Its characters lead you on an adventure of discovery. Brief encounters with Familiar Strangers will reveal unfamiliar perspectives and experiences of inner city Wellington that you think you know.

Downtown Community Ministry’s David Cross attended the opening night. He says, “The characters are as endearing as they are insightful. You come face to face with folk on the very edge of society but who have real stories to tell.

“I encourage anyone serious about learning more about the mixture of people that make up our city to go along.”

Familiar Strangers runs till 1st of March from Tuesday till Friday at 6:15 with a Saturday matinee at 3pm. Door sales are available at the Paramount Theatre 30 minutes prior to each show.
