SPCA Anticipates ‘Cupcakes Galore’

National Cupcake Day for the SPCA scheduled for August 31st

The Royal New Zealand SPCA is promising a truly scrumptious inaugural national Cupcake Day on August 31st.

The Society is challenging enthusiastic cake makers across New Zealand to descend on their schools, workplaces and social groups, armed with batches of delicious cup cakes to sell to raise funds for the SPCA.

“People of all ages love cupcakes and so many New Zealanders get a great buzz from cake-making. This is their opportunity to mix-it in the kitchen in support of a great cause,” says the SPCA’s Fundraising and Marketing Manager, Amy Drury.

“There are also plenty of people who care deeply about animals and who, we are sure, will welcome this practical and mouth-watering way of helping us out. So, put it all together and we’re expecting fun and delicious cupcakes galore on the day,” she says.

Amy adds that prizes will be awarded for the most creative cupcake, the most extreme place to eat a cupcake and the most money raised.

As New Zealand’s principal animal welfare charity, the SPCA relies heavily on public donations to raise a nationwide operating budget of more than $14 million a year.

“Sadly serious acts of animal cruelty are on the rise and your SPCA needs your help to prosecute those responsible. We also need your help to educate children and communities about animal welfare to prevent cruelty and neglect in the future,” says Amy Drury.

Meanwhile, the SPCA warns that, however much humans may enjoy cupcakes, they should not feed them to animals unless especially made for them. The Cupcake Day website includes a recipe for dog cupcakes so that your pooches don’t feel left out.

All monies raised by Cupcake Day will be used by the SPCA on behalf of New Zealand’s animals.
