Identi-kit of a
tosser
GetReal campaigners are hot on the trail of
tossers around the country.
“After a lot of hard
work at Grime Scenes around the country, we’ve been able
to release a description of the people we’re looking
for,” said Ivy Willmott, spokeswoman for GetReal.
“The litter tosser is a closet junk food addict. We suspect they may be missing arms, legs or possibly a large part of their brain, because we know they can’t reach the closest rubbish or recycling bin.
“Tossers can be male or female, but they all love chips and chocolate washed down with sugary soft drinks or beer.”
Ms Willmott said Grime Scene investigations around the country backed up the controversial theory that reckless, anti-social littering can be attributed to temporary insanity due to a complete lack of vegetables in the diet.
Thirty-one Grime Scene investigations found the same evidence of tossers across the country; in Wanaka, Alexandra, Marlborough, Hamilton and Waiheke Island.
“We found bottles, cans, wrappers and packets, but not a single vegetable peeling at any of our Grime Scenes,” said Ms Willmott. “We did find one dead cat, but we prefer to think that wasn’t part of anyone’s diet.”
The statistics from the 31 Grime Scenes showed that the three most popular brands for tossers are Pepsi Co, Cadbury’s and Coco-Cola, closely followed by Griffins Foods.”
Ms Willmott said she advised keeping a close eye on people carrying plastic shopping bags, because they were commonly used by tossers. Plastic bags were the fifth most common item found, making up nine percent of the top ten items.
“The amount of litter we found was just ridiculous” said Ms Willmott. “We picked up over 1,000 items at 31 locations. We’ve got to give tossers some real incentives to stop them littering, and that’s where producer responsibility comes into it.
“The big brands have got the power to help make the change. We’re asking them to work with us to come up with a solution that makes tossers a thing of the past.”
