Jumbo Tennis is back

When :            Friday 5 Mar 2010 from 3pm

Where:            The Wellington Renouf Tennis Centre Brooklyn Rd, Brooklyn

The Interface Financial Group Jumbo 7s Charity Tennis Tournament is back for the second year on Friday 5th March 3pm.

The Rotary Club of Wellington is again organising the tournament, to raise funds for the Malaghan Institute and Wellington Junior Tennis. Last year Brett and Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords were the star turns – who will it be this year?

Organiser William Sommerville is keeping tight lipped about it but he is urging business houses to get their teams ready and registered.

"Our goal this year is to raise $20,000 and have a heap of fun while we're doing it" said Mr Sommerville. "Business house competitions in Wellington are renowned for the spirit in which they're attended, so we are confident we'll get some great support for this event after the success of last year".

Jumbo Tennis is played with a two handed grip to Table Tennis rules - players take alternate hits.

Entries are being called for businesses or groups of friends to enter one or two teams of four. Contact William Sommerville on 021 766 171 or Ruth Bruce on 021 547 346

30 four person teams will compete for The Interface Financial Group Jumbo Tennis 7's Cup and many other prizes. Best tennis, best dressed and best supporters are just some of the prizes on offer.

“If tennis isn't your game, don't worry! Handicapping starts with the racquet, then we'll sort it out from there. Teams will be graded to ensure the competition is fair" said Mr Sommerville.

Games are seven minutes long and each team will play a number of games. Recovery periods will be plentiful, where players can take full advantage of the complimentary court-side food and beverages.
Team entry fee: $500 per team of four people.

The organisers are also calling for sponsors to get in behind this charity event.
