First Pole For Edgell

Auckland's Tim Edgell took his first BNT V8s Championship pole position during qualifying for Round 5 of the series at Manfeild Park in Feilding today.

Edgell took the Chesters Falcon to the fastest time in the second segment of qualifying, recording a lap time of 1 minute 13.093 seconds, .126 of a second quicker than second qualifier
championship leader Craig Baird. Defending champion Kayne Scott was third with former two-time champion John McIntyre next ahead of Angus Fogg and another former two-time champion Andy Booth.

Edgell, currently 4th in the championship point standings, has been threatening to gain his first pole position in the series for some time. He was third fastest in qualifying at Teretonga in January, second fastest at Timaru in the most recent round and today broke through for pole position to join a select group.

Fresh from his first podium result at Timaru three weeks ago Edgell will go in search of his first race win in the series tomorrow after taking two second placings at Timaru.

Rain threatened throughout qualifying today and it hit the circuit at the end of the top twenty portion of qualifying. Officials then made the decision to abandon the top ten shootout.

"We had good speed, it was a good session. We went out on used tyres to put the time in. We saw the weather coming, " said Tim as he faced the media after taking pole. "It wasn't the tidiest lap but it did the job." Looking ahead to tomorrow Edgell predicts close racing. "There is nothing in it," he said.

Tim and the Chesters Falcon line up on pole for the first race over 12 laps at 9.55am tomorrow morning. The second race, also over 12 laps, is timed to start at 12.55pm while the final event, a reverse grid race over 22 laps starts at 4.00pm.
