From Flirtatious to Fitness - Central Pole Dancing Championships
Fitness enthusiasts are taking Pole Dancing out of the club scene and putting it on track to the Olympic Games. An exciting new event is coming to Wellington that will see Pole Fitness students put their skills to the test in a supportive, competitive environment. The Central Pole Dancing Championships (CPDC) is to be held on June the 26th at the Wellington Performing Arts Centre and will host students from all over the country, displaying their talent.
Audiences can expect an evening of visually electrifying performances, including competitors from as far as Queenstown, children and experienced coaches.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to enter into the competitive Pole Fitness environment. It’s very exciting and encouraging to see the sport evolving and becoming more accepted.” Sarah Metcalfe a Pole Dancing student who has been passionate about the sport for many years.
“New Zealand is really behind the 8-ball so to speak when it comes to the understanding and establishment of Pole as a true fitness and form of sport. The United Kingdom, United States and Australia have grasped the fact that Pole Fitness has proven health benefits, and it has even been put to the International Olympic Committee to become an Olympic event. ” Says Sofia McLean CPDC Event Manager.
The vision for
the event is to provide an annual competition for those
already involved in the Pole Fitness industry and to
showcase the sport which has significantly matured from its
association with nightclubs. Miss McLean says it’s all
about removing pole dancing from its flirtatious foundations
to its fitness focused
future.
