2010 Mud, Sweat & Tears Challenge

22 June 2010

PRESS RELEASE:

2010 Mud, Sweat & Tears Challenge this weekend receives great entries.

The 2010 Mud, Sweat & Tears Challenge has had a fantastic response with over 850 hearty souls lining up this Sunday, 27th June, to compete in the first event of its kind in the South Island. The event starts at 11.00 o’clock for the 10 km event and 11.15am for the 5km event at the picturesque Motukarara Race Course.

Competitors will run up and over rugged hills, through the surrounding pine tree plantations and into muddy marshes and tackle over 30 manmade and natural obstacles. Obstacles include a mud slide, a hay bale pyramid, a crawl under a sea of barbed wire, wobbly bridges, horse jumps, a spider web, water jumps, balance boards, mud runs, floating platforms, tyre runs, crawling under trees and more.

The response has been fantastic and has attracted a field which is made up of 50% female entrants and 50% competing within teams, which many are using as a team building exercise.. The biggest section is the women’s 5 km under 45 with over 130 entrants whilst 41 mixed teams of 4 will compete..

The aim of the event, to create an environment where entrants will have fun whilst challenging themselves both physically and mentally, has proved popular and is seen as achievable by anyone with average fitness and can be as demanding as the individual wishes it to be. Quotes from Vaughan Utteridge, Event Manager: “We are extremely pleased with the interest teh event has attracted in teh first year and teh buzz it has created” and “The course is looking great and muddy and will provide a great day for all entrants and spectators alike”.
