Facebook Group Created To Push Telethon Airing

This afternoon a Facebook group was created to push TVNZ to air, on it's Heartland channel, a retro Telethon from the archive at Avalon.

This was prompted by an email I sent on Monday to the SOE asking it to investigate whether it would be possible to air a special Christmas Day/Boxing Day re-screening of a vintage Telethon in it's entirety.

This action originated from a compilation aired before the Sunday night replay of TVNZ Heartland's "From The Archives", which showed various pieces of Telethon '79 and prompted me to contact the network the next day.

It's no secret New Zealanders still have a love and fascination for the mid-winter event and because of the fact that there were no clips of Telethon shown during the month long celebration of 50 years of television, with the exception of a few brief moments on Prime and Heartland, it also gives me a reason to push TVNZ into the re-screening.

I also strongly believe that should the push be successful that it will increase viewership on the channel and be the highest rating programme on any TVNZ channel over the Christmas break.

Also, it should be noted that over the Christmas break many people are dissatisfied with the viewing options on free-to-air television and it is because of this that I proposed the re-screening.
