Classic Hits 89.5FM Among The Best In The Country

Finalists and winners of the 2011 New Zealand Radio Awards have been announced.

Martin and Sarah from Hawke's Bay's Classic Hits 89.5 FM were named finalists last night in the best Regional Breakfast Show Category. A fantastic achievement for a duo who have only been on air together for 12 months. They were up against breakfast teams throughout the country and they are thrilled to be picked among the top three.

The breakfast team have had an incredibly busy year which included a 24 hour broadcast in a bed on Marine Parade for Hawke's Bay's Canteen, giving away a fully renovated kitchen thanks to Mercy Renovators, and other supported events in the community. All this, as well as getting up at 4am every morning to deliver Hawke's Bay's number one local breakfast radio show!

Sarah van der Klay says it was a great honour to be recognised and chosen as a finalist - bring on next year's awards!

And the achievements didn't stop there - Hawke's Bay's Classic Hits was also named a finalist in the Outstanding Community Campaigns category for their House for 65 Roses fundraiser for Hawke's Bay Cystic Fibrosis. Classic Hits was the radio partner for this campaign, alongside Mitre 10 Mega, which involved building a house in a month. This was later auctioned and all proceeds went to the Hawke's Bay Cystic Fibrosis centre.

TRN Eastern Region General Manager Rebecca Johnson says a big thank you should go to the Classic Hits team and the community for supporting this community event.
