The Original Ending Tour 2011

The Original Ending Tour 2011
Featuring Janina and Stevie Starr

Kiwi musician Janina is set to release her debut album The Original Ending in 2011, kicking it off with a national tour in June with musician and brother Stevie Starr.

The songstress will hit the road with Starr (and a whole lot of old TVs which will project a collage of images forming the show’s visual backdrop) in the same manner their song-writing relationship began – while hitch hiking around the south island, playing in bars along the way, and finding inspiration for much of their album’s song material.

“What better way to release my album,” Janina says. “Than to head back to the path where it all began… making up songs on the side of the road… eating nuts from a supermarket bag… and my brother and I desperately waiting for a ride to stop and take us to Picton’s ferry terminal so we could make our boat trip back to Wellington on time. It makes sense to go back to that way of performing again - like my album title suggests – an original ending.”

Described as a cross between Goldfrapp and NZ’s own Bic Runga, Janina sings and plays guitar, clarinet and saxophone adding Theremin to create organic electronic beats, fusing the old with the new. She moved back home to Wellington from London in 2008, after gigging regularly there, to record and produce her album The Original Ending, engineering and producing the album herself, alongside brother/musician Stevie Starr, with mixing and mastering by Auckland based producer and VNZMA 2009 Tui Best Engineer Andrew Buckton (Midnight Youth, The Dukes).

Stevie Starr - who released his album We Hope In All Things New (Border) in 2009 – is a songster who the Sunday Star Times said is: “A mighty talent… Like Sigur Rós if they hung out with Radiohead in a Horowhenua forest.’ **** He has gigged internationally in the UK and Hamburg and since his album release has gigged nationally at Mighty Mighty in Wellington and various venues around Auckland, where he is now based.
Janina released her new music video and first single ‘Intentions of a Reluctant Artist’ on October 20, performing in Wellington’s packed Cuba Street Rex Royale shop window. Since returning to NZ she has played at Mussell Inn, Al’s Bar in Christchurch and around Wellington. Alongside her brother Stevie Starr this is a tour that can’t be missed!

“Janina’s voice is beautiful, moving, and wonderfully rich in color. She has a voice that the ear loves, and she can do that very rare thing, sing something and make you feel it in a special way... Highly imaginative and creative writing, and just great music.” - NZ composer John Psathas on The Original Ending, 2011

Blending classical compositions with sweeping pop movements, Wellington's Stevie Starr could well be one of the brightest new things on the New Zealand music scene. Influenced by Radiohead and Arvo Pärt, his inspired compositions are heartfelt, uplifting and really rather remarkable.NZ Herald, 2009

Music is an art and Starr paints a unique picture.” **** Waikato Times, 2009
